First and foremost, this week (2/1) is the 2nd anni of Nicstalgia! She’s a triple Aquarius and now a three-year-old!!!! Not gonna wax poetic about it too much, but I’m really happy to be working on a project that is fun, creative, and able to grow and evolve with me over time. Working consistently on the podcast, the newsletter, and the forthcoming essay compilation have all pushed me creatively and personally. My ideas about what the Nicstalgia universe can look like keeps on expanding, and that’s how I know I’m on the right track with it. Yay :)
Thank you for continuing to read Nicstalgia!!! I’m still working out if or how I want to take the brand beyond a passion project – that’s a whole other story – but in the meantime, this is your friendly reminder that you can support this newsletter financially!! I ♡ patrons of the arts!! Go ahead and push the button:
Also, I am doing something fun for Valentine's Day!!!!! If you subscribe to this newsletter and love Britney Spears, send me your address. Paid subs get first dibs! While supplies last. Today’s letter includes of links 4 u today. Enjoy! xx
Huge thank you to Nicstalgia supporters who I will love forever: Janine, Marie, Liv, Mitra, CY, Chet, and Jack! 💐💐💐
📲 I’m just a simple girl in a high-tech digital world
“I talked about Lady Gaga so much at the dentist once that they put it on my dental records” made me think about what must be on my file. I love when I go to the doctor or somewhere they don’t know anything about me and they mention something nostalgic or about pop culture. My recent PA asked if I remembered MySpace (I didn’t even bring it up first!) and it’s like, oh girl…you have no idea who you’re talking to ;)
I am very excited to hear that Rilo Kiley is going back on tour, and I have notifications turned on to see if when they announce East Coast dates!
If I was a Real Housewife of Chicago with a Fall Out Boy song title as my intro, it would either be, “Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner”, “Don’t You Know Who I Think I Am?”, or “I’ve Got A Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth”.
Happy 25th anniversary to The Sims! I loved listening to this song as I spent eight hours on a Saturday building a house. I need to get a gaming PC (sentence I never thought I’d type lol) so that I can play all of the old Sims games I recently acquired alongside my iMac G3!
I have no idea if the statement “Whitney Houston recorded “I’m Your Baby Tonight” in one take because she wanted to go to the mall before it closed”is true, but I really hope it is.
I’m excited for the February drink specials at Perkatory, my favorite/hometown coffee shop that blasts pop punk music. DEATH CAB FOR CUPID is a strawberry cheesecake matcha latte topped with conversation hearts, TAKING BACK SUNDAE is an ice cream sundae latte topped with whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles, and MY CARAMEL ROMANCE is salted caramel latte with chocolate drizzle and topped with coconut flakes. (Listen to my playlist of songs I have actually heard playing inside of Perkatory!)
I’m extremely obsessed with Nicole McLaughlin’s mini computer heels and would take any and every opportunity to wear these out on the town!
You know where I live? “An alternate universe where instead of saying “bless you” after someone sneezes you’re supposed to sing the entirety of It’s All Coming Back to Me Now by Céline Dion”.
Very impressed by Erin Flynn’s epic Bonne Bell collection of over 3,000 products, including early prototypes, marketing materials, and of course – Lip Smackers!
Kinda freaking out how much Simon & Garfunkel look like Ben Platt (or really, Jack Antonoff) and Jonathan Groff. Can’t unsee it!
This week in 1999, lives were changed forever when the “Cynthia, she’s a really cool dancer!” song premiered on Rugrats. And it has in my head ever since. MAKE AN OMELET CYNTHIA!
“What do you mean [you] just bought a Hannah Montana health scale?” The licensing team went crazy and really put Hannah Montana’s face on everything. People still love buying Hannah Montana licensed merch, even if it’s off eBay or at a deadstock dollar store. Hannah Montana Girl Talk game night looks so fun! (Except reading the directions LOL.)
Celebrity odd couples are coming together for good causes. Survivor host Jeff Probst and Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz played tennis with the pros (Agassi, Roddick, et al.) to support Hurricane Helene relief efforts in North Carolina. Pitbull appeared on Heidi Montag’s new remix of “I’ll Do It” to benefit the LA wildfires. Pitbull announced the collab with a video of a woman dancing wearing a gigantic Pitbull head. I have so many questions!

I wonder if Britney Spears is on my dental file bc I’ve asked many times for them to play Crossroads on Netflix during exams
