Donny from I Am The Cute One podcast is featured on this week's episode of Nicstalgia. We discuss which housewives franchise he would be a part of, my inherent understanding of RHONJ, and educating your parents about pop culture that they will never watch. All I’m saying is that we predicted the return of Laguna Beach streaming on Netflix!!!
Donny answers the question of what being the ‘final girl’ really means and which celebrities he loves to hate. We talk about how not liking Anne Hathaway or even Lea Michele isn’t funny anymore, (Glee is the real American Horror Story, isn’t it??) which musical show Donny would have competed on and likely won, and which pop band should have recruited him as their final member.
Did I work at a corporate fashion company for three years so that I could meet the leader of 2000s bubblegum pop girl band No Secrets? Yes. Have we waited in line for book signings at Barnes & Noble in Union Square for hours? Yes. Do we just want Jessica Biel to be happy? Yes. Is Donny is literally Sabrina’s aunt’s muse? Yes.

🛼 Haven’t You Heard?!
My fav things from the internet rn:
I am a huge fan of Halloween! While I unfortunately haven’t gone out to a Halloween party since 2019 where I dressed up as an industry plant created by T*mmy M*ttola to ruin Mariah Carey’s life and career JLo, I still created some fun content as Summer Roberts from The OC in the memorable Tijuana episode from season 1.
If there is literally one thing you need to know about me, it’s that I love Spice Girls. Always have, always will. A friend once called me ‘Millennial Sporty Spice’, and it’s stuck (because I’ve referred to myself as such ever since). ANYWAY!!! Now that I’m done with Sporty Spice’s memoir (brilliant, amazing), I’m onto the next book on my ‘People Who Were in Spiceworld’ Nicstalgia Book Club list. Richard E. Grant recently released a memoir as well. I was delighted to read this article about why his portrayal of Clifford deserves an Oscar!!!
Gen Z is bringing back digital cameras like Millennials brought back vinyl, and I kinda love it. I’ve already considered switching back to a flip phone, so this seems like a nice halfway point.
Glittery ‘Friends Forever’ picture frames. Scrunchies in every possible color. Choker tattoo necklaces. Butterfly clips. *NSYNC key chains. Getting your ears pierced by a sixteen year old. Of course I’m talking about Claire’s, a cultural institution. Now, Claire’s is creating a new experience in Roblox for ‘Gen Zalpha’ (meaning Gen Z, those born ~1997-2009 and Gen Alpha, even younger, born ~2010-2024). Fun!
📲 I’m Just a Simple Girl in a High-Tech Digital World
And the TikTok video version, because of course. Loves it!!!!
It’s almost the end of 2022. (How did that happen??) You know what that means! Who will be your most-played artists of the year? What about your top podcasts? Listen to (or watch) Nicstalgia on Spotify so your 2022 Spotify Wrapped is as fun and nostalgic as all those 2000s playlists you have on repeat. Make sure to subscribe while you’re there so you never miss an ep!
🏆 Nicstalgia Trivia
British pop band S Club 7 is what saved me when Spice Girls broke up. They had an unhinged (but I think also wholesome?) TV show from 1999-2002 where they played fictionalised* (*British spelling, because obviously) versions of themselves gallivanting around the U.S. Which cities did the first two series take place in? (The third and fourth being Hollywood and Barcelona, respectively.)

Last Week’s Answer
This week on Nicstalgia, Danielle, Jackie, and I discuss my comfort movie genre: Gen X Ensemble Casts™️. In addition to Scream, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Can’t Hardly Wait, their fav stars my alleged doppelgänger Christina Ricci (among many others). Interestingly, the music was done by the Mothersbaugh brothers (from Devo, and more importantly, Rugrats).
What’s the name of this ensemble comedy that follows “an array of young people” in New York City on New Year's Eve?
200 Cigarettes. Apparently it wasn’t available on streaming or even DVD for the longest time! Am going to have to watch on NYE this year.
